Testing The Sample

  1. Pour the test sample from the beaker into the separatory funnel and let it flow through the column.
  2. Wash through twice with 75mm of distilled water.
  3. Collect the solutions coming out of the column in a conical flask.
  4. Add to the flask a few drops of methyl-orange indicator and titrate with sodium Hydroxide 0.1 N using a suitable berette. The Sodium Hydroxide neutralizes the H+ions released by the ion exchange resin.
  5. Record the volume of Sodium Hydroxide (v) required to neutralize the solution to the near set 0.05mL.
