	Select the right power. Always use low-power for the first test. If the probe is not firmly embedded, change to standard power. To obtain low power push the driver head 2.5 inches into the barrel with the fully extended spring loaded depth gage mirometer with breech plug in place. For standard power the driver head is pushed into the barrel with breech plug in place.
	Prepare a probe. Screw the driver head chosen onto the threaded end of a probe until it bottoms
	Load the probe. Grasp the probe by the driver head, and with a twisting motion insert it into the breech.
