3. Test SystemThe test system is developed based on ISO/DIS 7031 [13]. It is a convenient and reliable method for assessing concrete durability in the laboratory at the mix design stage. The test is relevant because concrete durability problem is usually associated with water permeability of concrete cover. It can be used subsequently for in-situ tests on concrete structures. The novel computer controlled pressure regulator integrated with the water permeation indicator is incorporated with an integrated calibration system for pressure and displacement. The calibration of the test system is by means of a mature test cube of known water permeability. A concrete mix design nomograph has been proposed [14]. A draft standard is attached in Appendix A.
It has potential to be developed as an attachment to the universal testing machine to expedite the dual-test procedure. It is also useful for testing precast concrete piles and cement-lined pipes for waterworks which are subject to water pressure.
