WHAT IS THE BERNE CONVENTION?
The Berne Convention is a convention administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It is responsible for the promotion and cooperation of copyright protection among member countries worldwide. The Convention advocates three basic principles, i.e. the principle of automatic protection, the principle of national treatment and the principle of independence of protection. It has a membership of 131 countries as of June 1998. Malaysia became a member of the convention as of 1st October 1990.
